FOSTER GUIDE

The decision to bring a new pet into your home is a big one, even if it just temporary.
We want to make sure your fostering experience goes as smoothly as possible.
We will work with you to custom match the rescues to fit your needs.

Please note that all of our rescues go through foster care before going up for adoption.
This is done to ensure that they have had a chance to become more socialized

and adapt to their new living environments.

WHY FOSTER?

Fostering is one of the most rewarding experiences you can have and is something that is flexible enough to fit most lifestyles. By temporarily placing a rescued animal into your home, you're love and efforts will not only create more free space in shelters so that other animals can be rescued, but also help with the socialization process, allowing for an easier transition to adoption.

WHO REQUIRES FOSTERING

The most common animals who require foster care include:

Kittens & puppies who are too young to be spayed or neutered.
Cats & dogs who are nursing a litter of kittens or puppies.
Cats & dogs who are being treated for injuries or illnesses.

HOW FOSTERING WORKS

  • When To The Rescue rescues animals who are not ready to be put up for adoption, we contact our foster parent volunteers. Being part of a foster team means that if one foster is unavailable for whatever reason, we can just contact the next person on the list. Because there is never a shortage of fostering opportunities, our foster volunteers are never pressured to foster an animal they don't want. Once a foster volunteer accepts a rescue, they also receive all the necessary information about the animal’s history, medical condition and fostering needs.

WHAT YOU GET

Aside from the warm and fuzzy feelings you get from knowing you are making a huge difference in the lives of rescued animals, To The Rescue also provides our foster volunteers with all necessary veterinary care and medicine needed for their foster animals,  and 24/7 support service.
